From the Headmaster
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
A lot of congratulations are in order at the moment at Wollemi. First of all, congratulations to all our representative swimmers for an amazing performance at the Hills Zone Swimming Carnival . Joel L was the Under 13s Age Champion; a feat we don’t often see at Wollemi. Congratulations also to the 11s-13s relay team: William C, Joseph R, Elijah L and Toby W, who came second in their race and will represent Hills Zone at the next level.
Congratulations also to our new Student Representative Council , which was announced at Assembly this week. Effective student leaders act rather than just hold a position, focusing on team empowerment and positive action. "Good leaders must first become good servants." - Robert Greenleaf.

A final congratulations and a point of pride in our students. One cannot help but notice the increase in student numbers at daily Mass since Lent began. Despite having increased our Chapel capacity with some new benches, I am very impressed with the number of Secondary students who are freely choosing to attend Mass during this season of Lent. The confessional is also seeing a lot of activity. This is largely due to the formation they receive at home, but as a community, one cannot help but be encouraged by it.
I am also thrilled to announce that, as of this week, we will have a new Assistant Chaplain at Wollemi. Fr John Paul Graells joins us from Spain and will assist both Fr Felix at Wollemi and Fr Anthony at Montgrove. Welcome to Australia, Fr John Paul. All your future ‘customers’ are eager to meet you!
Good luck to our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students, as they sit their NAPLAN examinations beginning on Wednesday. Irrespective of how published results are used in the media, NAPLAN presents a great opportunity for diagnostics at the individual as well as group level. Each year we carefully analyse results and apply the lessons learned to better tailor our programs to the needs of our students. Let us support our students to do their best, unhampered by nerves or extraneous pressures!
Mr James Ramos, Headmaster

Pillars of Strength
Pillars of Strength
New Merit System in Secondary
At Wollemi College, we witness daily examples of students rising to the standards of character and leadership expected of them. To better capture and communicate these achievements, we are launching the new Merit Notification System .
This system ensures that our recognition of student achievement is directly linked to the specific virtues that define excellence at the College.
Students will now be formally recognised for demonstrating the following ten pillars:
- Wisdom & Justice
- Fortitude & Self-Control
- Charity & Humility
- Hard Work & Positive Attitude
- Integrity & Gratitude
When a student exhibits exceptional character, a notification will be sent to parents, the student, the Stage Coordinator, and the Mentor .
Each notification includes a brief outline of the specific behaviour observed. Each merit awarded also awards points to the student's House, ensuring that individual excellence contributes to the collective success of their House group.
Oita Tomei High School
Last week, Wollemi College hosted 16 students from Oita Tomei High School in Japan . The visit provided our guests with a full immersion into Australian school and home life.
During their stay, the students worked closely with Mrs Lugod to refine their English skills and integrated into the College community by attending Year 10 elective classes. They also took a leadership role with our younger students, teaching Years 2 and 3 the art of origami and how to write their names in Katakana.
The visit concluded with a final presentation to the Primary school and Years 7 and 8. The Oita Tomei students showcased their English proficiency by presenting on Japanese culture, concluding with a cultural dance performed with great intensity and pride. Before the presentation, the students sampled kangaroo meat and a traditional sausage sizzle, with Tim Tams and Minties for dessert.
To conclude the assembly, the Japanese students took on the Vegemite Challenge with mixed reviews. In a show of solidarity, the Head of Primary, Mr Luke Baxter, participated alongside them to demonstrate that the spread is indeed a local favourite.
Later this year, we will welcome a group from Nagasaki Nishi High School . This is the same school that hosted our Wollemi students during our trip to Japan last year, and we look forward to returning their hospitality.
We will be seeking families to host a visiting student. Hosting provides a unique opportunity for our families to engage with another culture and offers several benefits:
- Global Perspectives: Families gain firsthand insight into Japanese customs and daily life.
- Lifelong Connections: Many of our students form lasting friendships with their guests that continue long after the exchange.
- Cultural Leadership: Hosting allows our boys to act as ambassadors for the College and Australia, practising hospitality and charity within their own homes.
If you are interested in hosting a student from Nagasaki Nishi, be sure to look out for a notification from the school later in the year.
Mr Scott Williamson, Deputy Headmaster

Primary Matters
Week 6 2026
Week 6 2026
Week 6 2026 Reflecting on the first half of Term 1
As we pass the midpoint of Term 1, it is important for us to stop and reflect on our progress towards our goals for 2026. The boys have now settled into class and their new routines, they are familiar with their teachers and have formed new friendships and connections with boys in their class.
This week, I will stop by each Primary class and will ask students to reflect on the work of their class as a whole - I will ask them to think about their class's successes and their challenges - what are they doing well as a class? What are the best things about being in your class? What things could your class do better? What goals could we set for the remainder of Term 1?
It is important that the boys see themselves as a part of something bigger - understand that their daily decisions, actions and contributions have an impact on the class and others around them.
This week, we are asking the boys to consider their class’s successes and challenges (as a collective). It would be a great opportunity for you to have a talk with your son about his successes and challenges this term (as an individual) and set some new goals to finish Term 1 strongly.
NAPLAN 2026
We wish all of Year 3 and 5 students the best of luck in their upcoming NAPLAN assessments. The boys will complete 4 assessments - Writing (Wednesday 12), Reading (Thursday 13), Language Conventions (Friday 14) and Mathematics (Tuesday 17).
It is important that we remind all boys that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing; it is about assessing learning progress by taking a snapshot of their current skills at this point in time. It is not something to “study for” or stress about - it is simply about doing their best!
We wish them the best of luck and hope that each boy can achieve their personal best.
It is shaping up to be a very busy end to the term with CIS Swimming, Paul Kelly Cup (AFL), Term 1 Musical Performance Evening, Year 2 Father and Son Camp, Talking About Love Courses, an Oztag Gala day and several wonderful grade excursions all taking place. Please keep a lookout for communications from the College regarding these events.
Looking forward to a productive second half of Term 1!
Mr Luke Baxter, Head of Primary

Captain's Corner
Discipline Vs Motivation
Discipline Vs Motivation
How many times have we sat down at our chair and felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work that we needed to get done. Probably quite often, sometimes this work is completed immediately, sometimes delayed a half hour, sometimes completely dismissed. This is the result of Motivation. Motivation is something good that allows us to strive towards our goals, however in times where motivation is low our goals suffer. This is where discipline and habits come into play.
Motivation is intended to start you, goals are planned, resolutions are set and notebooks are fresh. However, after a few weeks into the term the motivation begins to fade away, distractions increase and we don't feel the drive to study or get homework done on time. Discipline takes over in the scenario, where we can no longer rely on our motivation, we can rely on the habits we've built. Think of the motivation cycle as a fluctuating graph and discipline as a plateauing consistent line. This looks like completing tasks even when interest drops, reviewing notes after school, finishing homework before games or entertainment. Students who rely on motivation stop when it disappears, those who rely on discipline continue to move forward. Imagine if your parents decided to feed you only when they felt motivated, how would that end up? Occasional effort never suffices.
Small habits that we build now will carry us through the year and detach us from the grievous motivation cycle. Take action, push through. With exams up ahead do a little bit of study each day instead of attempting to cram a few days prior. One small habit may appear miniscule now, but that same habit repeated daily for 10 weeks produces measurable results. Progress compounds, don't wait, we'll be looking back soon enough on our achievements of this term, and you will either be extremely proud that you applied yourself consistently. Or on the other hand extremely disappointed that you've gained near to nothing with the whole term
Confidence is often something perceived as “naturally born with”, while this is true in some cases, confidence is also built through consistency. Think of it this way, ask yourself what something you're really good at? It may be a sport, video game, writing, whatever it may be. Now ask, how did I get this good? How is it second nature? The reality is 9 times out of 10 the answer is repetition and consistency , whether intentional or not. Therefore, taking this principle we can apply it to everything, by consistently going over notes you memorise content better. By speaking more consistently you become more articulate, by playing an instrument more consistently you become more proficient.
Each person on earth lives the exact same 24 hours each day. The difference lies in how those hours are used. Some only use the hours when motivation is high. Others act, use and make the most of their day by staying disciplined. Success in school rarely depends on mere talent, it grows from consistent habits. The sooner you develop that discipline the earlier you gain an immeasurable advantage that extends far beyond the classroom.

10 PASS Excursion - AFC Women's Asian Cup
10 PASS Excursion - AFC Women's Asian Cup
On Friday, 6 March, Year 10 PASS students attended a match of the AFC Women's Asian Cup at Parramatta Stadium, watching DPR Korea take on Bangladesh .
This unique opportunity links directly to the course content students will study later in the year. As part of the PASS coaching unit, students examine performance strategies , team structures and tactical approaches used in sport. Attending the match provided an authentic opportunity for students to observe and analyse these elements at an elite international level.
More broadly, the excursion also supported students’ understanding of the role of sport in society, including leadership , teamwork, cultural diversity and the continued growth of women’s sport . Students had a great day out and enjoyed seeing DPR Korea defeat Bangladesh.
Mr Adam Bayliss & Mr Luke Dominici

Year 9 Commerce
Year 9 Commerce
On Friday 27th February, Year 9 Commerce students took part in Becoming Scam Savvy , an engaging workshop from Talk Money. The program helped students recognise scam red flags, explore common scam types, and learn practical strategies to protect themselves and seek help if targeted.

Primary Sport
Primary Sport
Aloha Wollemi Ohana,
As we arrive at Week 6, the excitement in the world of Primary Sport continues to build! Over the past few weeks, our students have been representing Wollemi College with tremendous effort, courage, and sportsmanship.
Recently, a group of our swimmers competed at the Hills Zone Swimming Carnival. Our boys did an outstanding job representing Wollemi College, their families, and themselves throughout the day. The level of competition was high, but what stood out most was the determination shown by our students in every race.
Many of our swimmers stepped up and pushed themselves to achieve personal bests, while constantly supporting and encouraging their teammates from the sidelines. Whether they were stepping onto the blocks for the first time at this level or competing in multiple events, every single student demonstrated resilience, effort, and great sportsmanship.
While the results were impressive, what made the day truly special was the way our boys carried themselves. All of our swimmers made Wollemi incredibly proud.
Hills Zone Swimming Carnival – Top 3 Finishers
A special congratulations goes to the following students who achieved Top 3 finishes in their events:
Jaxon Leggatt - 3rd Place - Boys 9 Year Olds 50 Meter Freestyle
Michele Asnaghi - 3rd Place - Boys 8 Year Olds 50 Meter Freestyle
William Casserly - 3rd Place - Boys 12-13 50 Meter Butterfly
Elijah Leggatt / Toby Ward / Joseph Roi / William Casserly - 2nd Place - Boys 11-13 4x50 Meter Freestyle 4x50m Relay
Students who placed in the Top 3 have received the exciting opportunity to progress to the CIS Swimming Carnival, where they will compete against some of the best swimmers from across the region. This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful reward for their hard work and dedication.
Congratulations again to all of our swimmers who competed at Hills Zone. Your effort, attitude, and support for one another truly reflect the spirit of Wollemi College.
We are incredibly proud of you all and look forward to seeing what the rest of the term holds for Primary Sport.

School Times
School Times
The school gates will open at 8:15am, and students are not allowed onto the school premises before this time unless they have co-curricular commitments. If you are dropping your child/children off before 8:15am, please remind them that they are to stay outside the gates until they are opened.
A reminder that when collecting your child/ren, parents can either:
- Park their car in the outside car park and walk into the school/pedestrian gate to pick up their child
- Use the car line process where your child will come to the car.
To help with the flow of the carline and traffic in the area, we kindly ask that:
- If you are using the car line, please do not exit the car.
- Please collect your child/children between 3.25 pm and 3.35 pm when Teacher supervision ends.
This is a reminder to parents NOT to park along Gipps Rd in the afternoon, as it causes congestion and risks the safety of our students.
Car Line Pick-up
Car Line Pick-up
The safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance at Wollemi. As you would appreciate, with the commencement of a new school term, and the continued growth of the school population, the volume of traffic in and around the College has increased during afternoon pick-up.
As a result of this, we have taken some measures to improve the parking at the College with the expansion of the overflow car park. To help ensure the effective traffic flow and our Wollemi community's safety, I take this opportunity to remind you of the College’s pick-up procedures...
IMPORTANT NOTES
Please ensure your son knows which car park he will be picked up from in the afternoon.
To further assist with traffic flow and reduce parent wait time in the car line, please remind your sons that they must be watchful for the approach of your vehicle on Gipps Rd so that they can be ready for collection.
We hope these measures will help improve traffic flow within the College, reduce congestion, and ensure student safety. We appreciate that the afternoon pickup period can be busy, and we ask that we continue to be patient and courteous to each other.
Main Carpark (inside the College)
- Entry into the school is via the second gate only.
- Students are only to be collected in the green pick-up area (see diagram above)
- The curb by the buildings is set down and pick up only (noted in green) – no parking. Do not alight from the right-hand side of cars in the set-down lane. Please be especially vigilant that children ONLY alight on the left.
- Please do not double park in the set-down lane; instead, wait for space to become available on the curb.
- Please remain in your vehicle until your son arrives.
- When waiting in the carline to collect your son/son, please move to the front of the line or fill any empty space available along the pickup area to ensure traffic flow and maximise space.
Please watch for young students crossing on the pedestrian crossing from the school veranda entrance to the carpark.
Overflow car park (outside the school)
- Students are only to be collected in the green pickup area (see diagram above)
- Please Park only in the designated parking bays - as noted in yellow on the diagram
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
