I was very happy to see so many of you at our Father’s Day Breakfastlast Friday. A massive thank you to Mrs Baird and the rest of the team for their effort on behalf of Wollemi Cricket, to raise money for the installation of cricket nets at Wollemi. A big thank you also to all the dads who attended; the community spirit was palpable. We hope that many of those dads will join us again this Friday for our Term 3 Dad’s Night- another great opportunity to catch up and build community.
Our community’s commitment was in full display at our Term 3 Key Parent Functions. Dr Locke Judith Lockeshared 6 essential skills every child needs to thrive. Please see the attachment below - takeaways from Dr Locke's presentation on how to raise resilient, self-reliant children who can handle life's challenges. I just received my copy of TheBonsai Childand TheBonsai Student; I can’t wait to read them. I would also recommend following Dr Locke’s Facebook page.
I was able to witness first-hand the resilience of some of our students during last week’s Year 9 Ski Camp. What a wonderful opportunity it was for boys to push beyond their comfort zone in an environment of mutual support and encouragement. The progress the boys made during the camp was amazing, as were the many instances of generosity and spirit of service I witnessed. Well done, boys.
We will host two Father and Son Campsover the next two weekends. I look forward to meeting many of our Year 8 and 6 parents at Point Wolstoncroft for some quality father and son time.
Congratulations to our Under 10 as well as Opens (years 11 and 12) Futsal teams for making it to the State Championship Finals- such a huge achievement for a school of our size. We have only recently started playing in earnest. Who knows how far our boys will go!

Deputy's Dispatch
R U OK?
R U OK?

Last Friday morning, our Wollemi dads and sons were welcomed by the delicious aroma of an Aussie BBQ, sizzling with bacon, eggs, and sausages. Beyond the food, the true highlight was the incredible sense of Wollemi community spirit.
This year’s Father’s Day Breakfasthad it all: gourmet bacon and egg rolls, the classic sausage sandwich, vegetarian breakfast rolls, and, for the first time, samosas with chai tea.
Alongside the culinary delights was the wonderful opportunity for our boys to spend quality time with their dads—chatting, laughing, and enjoying a relaxed morning together. It was a sight to see.
Feeding a crowd, especially when it involves hungry boys, requires much planning, preparation, and organisation. This year, the amazing Annemarie B (Wollemi mum) took the lead in coordinating and facilitating the event, supported by many volunteers. A huge thank you to Annemarie and to her sons, Elijah and Oscar, for their efforts (her youngest son, Sebastian, unfortunately unwell, was very disappointed to miss his volunteering opportunity).
We also thank Nitin J (Wollemi dad), who introduced samosas and chai tea to the menu, which quickly became a crowd favourite. Our gratitude also goes to Montu S (Wollemi dad) for his assistance. And, as in past years, Peter S deserves a special mention for once again manning the BBQ with skill—his exceptional grilling ensured every item was cooked to perfection.
As always, many of our staff members gave their time to support the morning. A massive thank you to Bernard James, Yassa Beshay, Jay Pacquing, Bryan Reyes, and James Tudehope.
We also acknowledge our student volunteers, who generously helped before school. A special mention goes to Thomas G, who assisted across all aspects of the event—from preparation, to service, to pack-up.
The Father’s Day Breakfast was truly a community effort. We hope all our dads had a wonderful morning at Wollemi and enjoyed a special Father’s Day with their families.
This Thursday, we share the important message of RUOK? Day. RUOK? Day’s theme this year is "Ask R U OK? Any Day,"encouraging regular conversations about mental health and wellbeing throughout the year, not just on the designated day. This day is a vital reminder about checking in with our loved ones, friends, peers, colleagues and, where appropriate, people we do not know very well. Checking in is very easy to do, and it can make a big difference in the life of someone who is struggling.
The Secondary boys will participate in an RUOK? Day workshop, followed by some fun sports and activities. They will also share a Kit Kat with a friend (Wollemi will provide the Kit Kat). This is not a whole-day event; it will run during the last two periods of the school day for Year 7 to 10 students. Primary boys will also share a Kit Kat with a friend and complete a number of small class-based activities throughout the day to help share the important message of checking in with one another.
Mr Scott Williamson, Deputy Headmaster

Primary Matters
Developing Character Through Sport
Developing Character Through Sport

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Combined Independent Schools Athletics Championships to see 3 of our amazing primary students compete against the best athletes from independent schools across the state. These 3 students Levi V (Long Jump), Kirbie A (100m and 200m) and Joseph G (Shot Put and Discus) represented Hills Zone and Wollemi College with pride, achieving pleasing results, highlighted by Joseph G placing 4th in Shotput.
The way in which these 3 young men carried themselves, made me consider the positive impact which sport and other extra curricular activities can have on the character development of our students.
We are blessed at Wollemi to have so many teachers who give up their time to allow our students to participate in a wide range of sports and other extra curricular activities - Rugby Union, Flag Football, soccer (indoor and outdoor), basketball, chess, debating and cricket. In addition to the valuable health benefits and skill acquisition from participation in these activities, it is the character traits which they develop along the way which are so valuable.
Developing resilience and fortitude through facing tough opponents and bouncing back from setbacks, showing compassion and respect for the feelings of their opponents and teammates and growing in integrity and honesty through fair play and ethical conduct. These traits, coupled with improvements in self esteem and confidence and the development of teamwork, discipline and communication skills are just a few of the benefits of participating in sports and extra curricular activities. Having our staff explicitly model and celebrate the positive development of these virtues and character traits is so beneficial and will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on our students and hopefully, the wider community of Wollemi.
Wollemi College Book Parade and Family Picnic
Congratulations to all Year 2 and Year 3 students who participated in this year's Book Parade. The boys showed outstanding poise and confidence to walk across the stage and deliver their short character speeches to a large crowd of over 350 people!
A huge thank you to Mr Lockley, Mr Quan and the Year 2 and Year 3 teachers for their efforts on the day in coordinating both the parade and family picnic. It was lovely to see so many families enjoy lunch together and participate in the many activities on offer. A now yearly highlight being the parent and family sack races, egg and spoon races and other sports challenges.

Spirit of Service
Spirit of Service

Everything works when things are done for the right reason.
When our motives come from love, we want to do the work, and we naturally want to do it well. Love gives us meaning, and it also gives us mastery. Having a spirit of service in our work will lead us to continually improve how we do it. When we get the “why” right, everything else lines up.
Over the next few weeks, as you are busy with assessments and work, work for someone. Be motivated because you know that you are helping yourself, your family, you are making your parents proud by working.
Let your work become more than just work. Let it be a way to help others and grow.

Book an Adventure 2025 – Wollemi Primary Book Parade & Family Fun Day
Book an Adventure 2025 – Wollemi Primary Book Parade & Family Fun Day

The playground came alive with imagination as all our Year 2–3 students transformed into beloved book characters, from magical creatures to daring adventurers. Our teachers also joined in the fun, delighting everyone by dressing as classics from Bananas in Pyjamas all the way to Olaf from Frozen! A big thank you to all the families who joined the celebration and the picnic and games afterwards - you all make the Wollemi community such a special place.
The day also marked the culmination of the inaugural Wollemi Primary Readathon, with a huge congratulations to all our raffle prize winners who were drawn during the parade. Together, our school community pledged an outstanding $3,200 for the Australian Dyslexia Foundation, making a real difference for children and families who benefit from their important work.
A heartfelt thank you goes to every student, parent, and staff member who supported this initiative with such enthusiasm. Don’t forget — students still have until the end of term to return their Fundraising Pledges.
What an adventure-filled day of reading, creativity, and celebration for the joy of reading!

Medicine Seminar: How to Get into Medicine
Medicine Seminar: How to Get into Medicine

On Wednesday, 3 September, we were fortunate to welcome Redfield Old Boy, Dr Michael Choi, who spoke to Secondary students about why medicine can be a rewarding career and how to get started on the journey.
Dr Choi shared his personal story, beginning with work experience at Westmead Children’s Hospital and leading to his current internship at Nepean Hospital, where he is working in the Emergency Department. He then gave a clear overview of the different pathways into medicine and other health professions, before finishing with a Q&A session.
This was an optional event, yet over 40 students gave up their lunchtime to attend.
A big thank you to Dr Choi for inspiring our students!

Market Day
Market Day

On Thursday, 4th September, the Year 10 Commerce class held their annual Market Day as part of their Unit of Work, Running a Business. Students worked collaboratively in groups to plan, design, and operate their own small businesses, which were brought to life through a variety of market stalls.
The stalls were a great success, offering an exciting range of products including brownies, ice cream cones, boba, donuts, and milkshakes.
On behalf of the Year 10 Commerce class, we would like to thank the school community for their support in making the day such a success. Thanks to your generosity, a total of $1,648.25 was raised and donated to the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Mr Luke Dominici, Secondary Teacher

Opens Futsal State Championships
Opens Futsal State Championships

They were on fire in the group stage, winning 4 of their 5 games (including wins against two sports schools) and finishing at the top of their pool.
The quarter final against Freshwater was a nail-biter — the match ended 2–2 and went to penalties, where the boys were unlucky to go down.
What makes their effort even more impressive is that most of the team were right in the middle of their HSC trial exams, and they hadn’t trained together since the last tournament.
To still come out and play with so much passion, skill, and determination was outstanding. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented the school!

Aloha Wollemi Ohana,
It feels like I say it frequently, but it has been a busy past few weeks in the world of primary athletics! From futsal, soccer, and American flag football, our fanatic student athletes dug deep and gave it their all!
Two weeks ago, Wollemi College was well represented at the Hills Zone Athletics Carnival. All of our boys represented their school and families extremely well. Not only in the way they performed, but also in the sportsmanship and support they showed each other.
Three of our boys were able to bring home five ribbonsthroughout various events, and one amazing athlete set TWO Hills Zone records! Please see below for the breakdown:
-Levi V (4B): 3rd place in 8-10’s High Jump - 1.15m
-Kirbie A (5G): 3rd place in U11’s 200m Sprint - 30.32 seconds
-Kirbie A (5G): 1st place in U11’s 100m Sprint - 14.57 seconds
-Joseph G (6B): 1st place in 12-13’s Shot Put - 9.58m (Hills Zone Record)
-Joseph G (6B): 1st place in 12-13’s Discus - 25.95m (Hills Zone Record)
All three will represent Wollemi College at the CIS Athletics Carnival, which would have happened by the time of this writing. (Can update)
Congratulations again to all of our athletes!

The Fathering Project
The Fathering Project
On Friday, the 22nd of August, a bunch of Wollemi dads gathered together for our very first Fathering Project evening - what a great start it was! With some wine, cheese and nibbles to share, the room quickly filled with conversations, good yarns and deep reflections. We looked at The Father and His Familyby Michael Moynihan.
There was some initial guided discussion, but after a few prompts, the stories and anecdotes started flowing freely. Dads spoke about the joys of being present with their kids, the challenges of balancing work and family, and the quiet pride that comes from seeing their son or daughter grow in confidence and character.
What stood out to me most as a young father of three young boys was the sense of fraternity and the very special community that we have here. I was reminded of the great anthem (love them or hate them): “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. We all face ups and downs as fathers, and together, we can encourage and support each other in our journeys.
This is exactly what the Fathering Project is about: building stronger fathers for stronger families. By giving dads a space to connect and share, we give our children an example of what real leadership, humility and friendship look like.
This first gathering was just the beginning. We’re excited to see how the Fathering Project grows here at Wollemi, with more opportunities for dads to come together, learn from one another, and strengthen the bonds that hold our families and school community together.
To those who came along and took a leap of faith, not knowing what to expect - thank you. It was a truly special evening. To those who couldn’t make it, we look forward to welcoming you to the next event.
The next eventwill be circa Week 4 or 5, Term 4. We will be unpacking The Anxious Generationby Jonathan Haidt, a book that, no doubt, many of you have heard much about. Looking forward to it already!

The safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance at Wollemi. As you would appreciate, with the commencement of a new school term, and the continued growth of the school population, the volume of traffic in and around the College has increased during afternoon pick-up.
As a result of this, we have taken some measures to improve the parking at the College with the expansion of the overflow car park. To help ensure the effective traffic flow and our Wollemi community's safety, I take this opportunity to remind you of the College’s pick-up procedures...
