From the Headmaster

We have finished the month of May, traditionally dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Catholic tradition, with a flurry of pilgrimages. Last Friday, our Primary boys concluded the month with an intense praying, followed by a visit to Ryde Aquatic Centre for the junior boys and a trip to Redfield for the Pared Cup, which our senior Primary boys participated in. I am delighted to report that the Pared Cup is once again ours!
On Friday, 23 May, it was the turn of our Secondary students. I was proud to accompany the boys from Araluen to the very beautiful Our Lady of Victory in Horsley Park. In addition, we had our second edition of the Pilgrimage Day for Wollemi Families on Sunday, 25 May. A big thank you to the more than 200 participants. Throughout these occasions, we have prayed as a community for Jamie Dowsett and his family, as well as for Pope Leo XIV. We have also given thanks for Baby Raphaella and Lucy Tudehope, on their remarkable recovery from serious illnesses.
A big thank you to all the parents who braved the cold (and sacrificed part of their State of Origin) to attend our Key Parent Function last week. A big thank you also to our speakers: Mr Burfitt, Mr James and Mr Tudehope. I have heard fantastic feedback about their various presentations. I could not help but remark more than once how lucky we are at Wollemi to be able to call upon such a depth of talent among our staff. I myself presented to the Year 2 parents, and thanks to Mr Baxter’s mediation and technical skills, we had an excellent discussion on practical ways to foster virtue development at home. It was clear to me, listening to the suggestions, that our talent pool also extends to our wonderful parents.
Next week, most of our Secondary students will sit their Mid-year Exams. I know a lot of mentoring sessions these days have been about study methods and techniques. Many different practical methods to plan study sessions before exams have been circulating in the Secondary, and motivation has been thoroughly discussed at many a mentor meeting. Thank you to those parents who have already attended or booked their Mentor Meeting this term. It has been our constant experience that when students are receiving the same consistent message at home and school, their improvement is noticeable.
Also for your calendar, we will have our annual Eucharistic Procession on the afternoon of Thursday, 19 June. The following day, Friday 20 June, will be our Dad’s Night for all Wollemi and Montgrove dads. The following week, which is the last of the term, we will hold our Athletics Carnival on 24 June, followed by various special activities on the feast day of St. Josemaria on 26 June. That evening, you are cordially invited to participate in a special Mass in honour of St Josemaria at St Nicholas of Myra at 7:30 pm.
James Ramos, Headmaster
From the Chaplain
This year, Easter finishes on June 8, which is Pentecost Sunday. How good to receive an update from the Holy Spirit on his gifts! Wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord!
We have been witnesses to the action of the Holy Spirit during the Conclave of the Cardinals that elected Pope Leo XIV. As he explained, "with the light and the strength of the Holy Spirit, let us build a Church founded on God's love, a sign of unity, a missionary Church that opens its arms to the world".

A focus on character - Year 2 KPF
Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of assisting Mr Ramos as he presented an informative overview of character education at the Year 2 KPF. Mr Ramos gave us some great explanations of what parenting is and is not and shared some core principles that guide character education.
At the heart of Mr Ramos’ presentation was the question “What would you like your son to be like when he grows up?” This question challenged all in attendance to consider the values and virtues they would like to see in their sons as they grow into adulthood. The responses (among others) - kind, happy, confident, courageous, faithful, resilient, honest, generous, a good person - led to a very engaging discussion where small groups were asked to compile a list of strategies and practices that we can implement, within our home life, to help grow these important qualities. I have attached some of the responses below, showcasing the practical steps we can take to help model and build these qualities and values within all students at Wollemi. For further guidance regarding the virtues that we are aiming to foster at Wollemi, look closely at your son’s diary. Page 2 has a detailed description of the 4 cardinal virtues, as well as others that we value as a school community!
The PARED CUP is retained!
With great pride, I share with you the news that our Year 5 and 6 students have retained the PARED Cup for another year.
The 2025 edition of the PARED Cup was held last Friday at Redfield College. Our Year 5 and 6 students made the journey across to Dural, prayed a reverent rosary and then squared off against their Redfield counterparts in a variety of team sports.
After 4 close rounds of soccer, basketball, Oztag and European handball, the Redfield staff shared the news that the scores were tied; however, as holders of the cup from 2024, we indeed retained the PARED Cup for 2025! Well done to all involved!
Year 2-4 Pilgrimage
While our senior Primary students battled away for the PARED Cup, our Year 2-4 students embarked on their Pilgrimage to St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The boys were reverent and respectful throughout our prayers at the church. It was a great privilege to have the former Headmaster of Wollemi College, Frank Monagle, join us for Prayer on the day (Mr Monagle had been visiting the church by chance).
After prayer, the boys had a wonderful afternoon at Ryde Aquatic Centre. It was pleasing to hear some kind words of praise from the Ryde Aquatic Centre manager, who commended the boys' behaviour and our excellent teacher supervision.
A huge thank you to our Primary staff and our wonderful parent helpers for their efforts on the day!
Book and Lego Drive 2025
This week, we launch our Book and Lego Drive for 2025. We are calling out for all of the “well-read” books that you would be happy to donate to the College, suited to students from ages 6-12. We are looking to increase the quality of our class libraries across Primary, giving the boys a wider selection of books to read within their classroom.
We are also asking for any donations of LEGO, which have sat idle in rooms and garages. The Wollemi College Lunchtime LEGO Club will launch in Term 3, and we are looking to renew and grow our LEGO collection.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
Donations can be brought by your son to his class teacher throughout Weeks 6-8. Our strong and trusting Year 6s will then collect and redistribute the books and LEGO to their new classroom homes.
Captain's Corner

Week 6 already, this term is flying! Most of you boys have upcoming exams so I wish you all the best, stay focused and study hard so that at the end of it all you will know you gave the term your best effort. I know that when we get around this mark we will want to put our feet up and have a quick little break, but it is essential that you keep pushing on. Take a marathon runner for example; if he wants to run 42km he won't be able to just go and run it, he will have to progressively work towards it, he might have to run 11km for 2 weeks and then 21 km for two weeks until he is able to go for that 42km. The term enables us to progressively work to achieve maximum output, so keep moving forward.
For those boys participating in the Basketball Finals this week, I wish you all the best! The House Competitions are always a great opportunity for us to express our house spirit, we can’t wait to see who comes out as the Victors for the 7-9 & 10-12 Comp.
As May has concluded I encourage you guys to keep your prayer life alive and keep at that relationship we built up with our Mother Mary in may. The Month of May is a stepping stone for us as its an invitation to have that devotion to Mary, so now is your chance to continue that relationship and enable it to grow in your life and be fruitful.
God Bless!

Year 10 Commerce Workshop
On Monday 26th May, Year 10 Commerce students participated in an engaging workshop run by Talk Money with Ecstra Foundation. The session explored different ways to earn money, students' rights in the workplace, and practical financial skills such as understanding pay slips, tax, and superannuation.
These valuable workshops empowered students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions both now and in the future.
Years 2–4 Marian Pilgrimage

In Week 5, our Year 2–4 students marked the end of the Month of Mary with a beautiful Marian Pilgrimage that combined prayer, reflection, and plenty of fun. The day began with students praying the Rosary on the bus journey to St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. At the church, Mr. Breen led a second Rosary with the students, helping them reflect on the virtues of Our Lady and the meaning of the Sorrowful Mysteries in their lives.
A special moment of serendipity occurred when we unexpectedly met Mr. Frank Monagle, one of the Founding members of our school, during our visit to the church. It was a memorable encounter that added great meaning to the day.
Following the visit to St Charles Borromeo, students celebrated the end of their pilgrimage with two hours of swimming and fun at Ryde Leisure and Aquatic Centre. The giant slide and rapids were a major hit, with laughter and excitement echoing throughout the centre. The fun was so great that many items of clothing were left behind and can now be found in lost property.
A big thank you to all the parents for their patience and understanding as our coach returned right in the middle of afternoon pick-up. Your support made this special day possible for the students, teachers, and parent volunteers.
It was a wonderful way to end the Month of Mary — in prayer, community, and celebration.

2025 Wollemi Eucharistic Procession
You are cordially invited to our 2025 Wollemi Eucharistic Procession, which will take place on Thursday, June 19, from 2:15 to 3:00 p.m.
The Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, which falls this year on Thursday, 19 June, celebrates the institution of the Holy Eucharist. St John Paul II in Ecclesia de Eucharistia wrote that “the worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass is of inestimable value for the life of the Church.” For this reason, at Wollemi, we would like to teach all our students the immense value of Eucharistic Adoration by having a short procession around the school grounds.
The Corpus Christi procession is an old tradition of the Catholic faith to confess the Real Presence of Jesus — the Eucharist — in public. It is a special occasion to pray together, with parents, staff, and students, before the Blessed Sacrament. Our Year 12 students and many other boys will be helping out and contributing to this special occasion in some way.
We invite students who have just made (in 2025) or will make their First Holy Communion in 2025 to join us at Wollemi for our Eucharistic Procession on Thursday, 19 June. The first communicants will wear a white sash provided by the school on top of their full winter school uniform.
Students participating will attend the rehearsal on the morning of the procession day. If your son would like to join the Procession, kindly complete this form.

General Notices
Heartfelt Thanks!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Wollemi community for the prayers and support we received during baby Raphaella’s hospital admission. Upon hearing of Raphaella’s condition whilst she was still in utero, James Ramos, the Wollemi staff, school captains, and students immediately began their prayer campaign for her. We were astounded to see so many gather in prayer for her, and it was a true testament to the faith that we hold so dearly at Wollemi.
We also extend our immense gratitude to the Wollemi parents and families who not only offered up prayers for Raphaella but also provided us with the practical support that helped to make our situation more manageable. The meals and other various supports we received were invaluable and carried us through some of our most difficult moments.
Thank you all, and please be assured of our continual prayers for those within our school community who are also going through challenging times.

2025 Term Dates
School Times
The school gates will open at 8:15 a.m., and students are not allowed onto the school premises before this time unless they have co-curricular commitments. If you are dropping your child/children off before 8:15 a.m., please remind them that they are to stay outside the gates until they are opened.
A reminder that when collecting your child/ren, parents can either:
Park their car in the outside car park and walk into the school/pedestrian gate to pick up their child
Use the car line process where your child will come to the car.
To help with the flow of the carline and traffic in the area, we kindly ask that:
If you are using the car line, we ask parents not to exit the car.
Please collect your child/children between 3.25 pm and 3.45 pm when Teacher supervision ends.
This is a reminder to parents NOT to park along Gipps Rd in the afternoon, as it causes congestion and risks the safety of our students.
Car Line Pick-up
The safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance at Wollemi. As you would appreciate, with the commencement of a new school term, and the continued growth of the school population, the volume of traffic in and around the College has increased during afternoon pick-up. As a result of this, we have taken some measures to improve the parking at the College with the expansion of the overflow car park. To help ensure the effective traffic flow and our Wollemi community's safety, I take this opportunity to remind you of the College’s pick-up procedures.
Main Carpark (inside the College)
1. Entry into the school is via the second gate only.
2. Students are only to be collected in the green pick-up area (see diagram above)
3. The curb by the buildings is set down and pick up only (noted in green) – no parking. Do not alight from the right-hand side of cars in the set-down lane. Please be especially vigilant that children ONLY alight on the left.
4. Please do not double park in the set-down lane; instead, wait for space to become available on the curb.
5. Please remain in your vehicle until your son arrives.
6. When waiting in the carline to collect your son/son, please move to the front of the line or fill any empty space available along the pickup area to ensure traffic flow and maximise space.
Please watch for young students crossing on the pedestrian crossing from the school veranda entrance to the carpark.
Overflow car park (outside the school)
7. Students are only to be collected in the green pickup area (see diagram above)
8. Please Park only in the designated parking bays - as noted in yellow on the diagram
IMPORTANT NOTES
Please ensure your son knows which carpark he will be picked up from in the afternoon.
To further assist with traffic flow and reduce parent wait time in the car line, please remind your sons that they must be watchful for the approach of your vehicle on Gipps Rd so that they can be ready for collection.
We hope these measures will help improve traffic flow within the College, reduce congestion, and ensure student safety. We appreciate that the afternoon pickup period can be busy, and we ask that we continue to be patient and courteous to each other.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Wanderers Fives News
On Monday, 2nd June 2025, Wollemi College formed two teams to participate in the Wanderers Fives Penrith Regional series. Consisting of Year 5 and Year 6 students, both teams had to negotiate a tricky round robin stage, where the winners of each group would progress to the Wanderers Fives Finals series, held in Term 3 later this year.
Wollemi A overcame a tough start to defeat tricky opponents York Public School, with Joel L scoring a late winner to win 3-2. The boys then performed optimally against Regentville Public School, Samuel Terry Public School and Redeemer Baptist School to win their group with a record of 4 wins, zero draws and zero losses, finishing on 12 points to pip York Public School for a place in the finals. The highlight of the group phase for Wollemi A was Noah D scoring his first-ever goal in competition, something he has worked very hard at.
Wollemi B had a tricky road to qualification, having to overcome St Clair Public School, St Clair Public School and the Oaks Public School. After initially playing out a thrilling 4-all draw with Regentville Public School, they faced off in the return leg, with the winner advancing to the finals alongside Wollemi A. After a topsy turvy effort, the boys came from behind to win a thriller 8-6, with Benedict D showcasing trademark toughness to score a hat trick. Wollemi B finished with a great record of 4 wins, one draw and zero losses.
With both sides progressing to the finals, we would like to take our time to thank the following: Thank you to Brett S, Moses J and Roman G from Year 10 for taking their time to coach the boys to winning their groups. To the ever-supportive parents, your cheers pushed us to the finish line.
Lastly, but more importantly, our teams - we did it the 'Wollemi Way' - playing fairly and ensuring all the boys took to the pitch (not easy with 12 player squads with only 5 players allowed on the pitch). The teams are as follows -
Wollemi A - Kirbie A, Rafael S (both year 5), Oliver M, Jonah B, Michael T, Oscar B, Jeremiah T, Mateo J, Joel L, Niko L, Sebastian U and Noah D (all year 6) - coached by Roman G (Year 10)
Wollemi B - Pero L (Year 5) Benedict D, Francis V, Dominic N, Adam B, Wojciech B, Jayden D, Dominic R, Ethan L, , Michael P, Alexander P and Benjamin R (all year 6) - coached by Moses J and Brett S (Year 10)
Well done boys, off to the finals we go! Before we go to Wanderers Fives, we have the Futsal Penrith Regional championships next. See you all there
