From the Headmaster

A very Happy Easter to all the parents, staff, and students at Wollemi, and a warm welcome to Term 2. It will be relatively short-term, at 9 weeks, and a busy one. On the academic front, the term will include a variety of assessments that will inform the Semester 1 Academic Reports, including Secondary Mid-year exams later in the term. Top effort from day one will ensure a Semester report to be proud of.
We all know that effort alone is not sufficient. It needs to be ‘directed effort’ - what do our students need to improve on? This was the focus of the many Parent-Teacher meetings that took place on the first day of the term. A big thank you to our dedicated staff for a long and intense first day, and to all the parents who were able to come throughout the day and evening to touch base with their son’s teachers. Personalised Education is one of the hallmarks of the Wollemi system and close communication between parents and school is paramount.
Effort was certainly evident at our Secondary and Primary Cross Country races on 1 and 6 May. Congratulations to the winners and those who have qualified to represent Wollemi at the next level. But more importantly, congratulations to all the boys who ran, who overcame discomfort and sometimes pain, and who pushed themselves beyond their comfort zone. I was particularly pleased when witnessing students cheering other runners on, even those towards the back of the field who were never really in contention. Many personal efforts might have gone undetected, but should not be unrecognised. Well done, boys!
I am attaching below a summary of our 2025 Strategic Goals. Throughout Term 1, we have engaged in a series of workshops aimed at integrating various inputs from our community to refine our 2025 goals. We’ve incorporated the feedback from parents, staff and students received in the Perspectives Survey at the end of last year. We have also engaged our student body in a series of workshops titled Culture in Motion to empower students to participate in the strategic process. We have also conducted multiple workshops with our staff to refine these goals further. I hope they reflect our commitment to developing well-rounded students who excel academically while embodying strong character and faith.
We are looking forward to welcoming many of our Year 5 and 6 dads for our special KPF this Friday, 9 May and our Year 3 and 4 mums on Saturday, 17 May. They will be participating in the Talking About Love program, which helps parents communicate with their children about sexuality, tailored to the child's age and maturity, fostering stronger parent-child relationships.
A Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful Wollemi mums. Many thanks to all the contributors to the Mother’s Day stall taking place this Friday. I hope many of our mums will be able to join us for a special Mass and morning tea on Monday, 12 May to celebrate all our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers.
Finally, I must make a special mention of the wonderful example our community as a whole is setting for our young men by coming together in such a fashion at the hour of need for anyone in our midst. You will be happy to know that Raphaella Roberts is now thriving at home, basking in the love and attention of her siblings. Only this week, we received the news that Lucy Tudehope has left the ICU and is now hoping to soon move to a rehabilitation facility. These are strong proofs of the power of prayer. With this same faith, I ask you for your intense prayer for Jamie Dowsett and his family over the next few days.
James Ramos, Headmaster
- Baby Raphaella thriving at home
- Many thanks from the Roberts Family
- Rosary by the Shrine; prayer intentions for Mr Dowsett.
Deputy's Dispatch

In classic Wollemi style, we have started Term 2 with a hive of various activities! We commemorated ANZAC Day, held two cross-country carnivals, began preparations for the Mother’s Day stall and morning tea, ran a lockdown drill, and held a Stage 4 Maths incursion! But wait, there’s more to come! In the weeks ahead, our Student Representative Council will attend a Leadership Conference, Year 2 and Year 5 will attend an excursion, Primary will participate in a rugby gala day, Elevate will equip Year 9 and 10 students with best practice study skills and techniques, the Hills Zone Cross Country is on and that only takes us to Week 5! I look forward to seeing many of our students thrive in the experiences organised and facilitated by our hard-working teachers.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
On Wednesday, 30 April, Tony Fryer, Honorary Secretary of the St Mary’s RSL Sub-Branch, addressed our Wollemi students during the ANZAC Day ceremony. His address was warmly received by both students and staff, particularly when he shared a personal story about his extended family.
Mr Fryer’s grandfather served in the First World War, and during the Second World War, his uncle—just 16 years old at the time—was eager to enlist and serve his country. Like many young men of that era, including my own grandfather, he provided a false birth certificate in order to join the fight for freedom alongside his fellow countrymen.
Before enlisting, Mr Fryer’s uncle informed his parents of his intentions. Naturally, they were deeply concerned. They wrote to Mr Fryer’s grandfather, a World War I veteran, seeking guidance on whether they should support their son’s decision. The reply they received encouraged them to allow their son to do what he believed was right—for his country, for his family, and for future generations to live in freedom. While the message was not what they had hoped for, it was accepted and respected. After receiving this guidance, Mr Fryer’s uncle enlisted and went on to serve his country in the war.
The sacrifice of the many men and women who served—and in many cases gave their lives—for the sake of others will always be remembered. It is heartening to see that the legacy of ANZAC is so deeply respected by the current generation. The way our students conducted themselves with solemnity and attentiveness during the ceremony filled me with great pride and gratitude.
A special thank you to the following people:
Our Primary and Secondary School Captains, along with Giovanni M., for their involvement in the ceremony;
Mr Tolentino for setting up the portable flagpole, which he personally designed and built, as well as the silhouette of the ANZAC digger;
Demir U., who proudly wore his cadet uniform and manned the flagpole with great proficiency and accuracy;
Ms Lamrock and the Wollemi Orchestra for their beautiful performance of the National Anthem;
Mr Pacquing and his Year 3 Choir;
Lastly, in a Wollemi first, Charlie B. who delivered a spine-tingling live performance of the Last Post on trumpet.

Happy Easter!!
With joy we watched Pope Francis giving the Urbi et Orbi blessing on Easter Sunday, top moment of the Holy Year of Hope.
And it was a surprise to hear that he passed away on Easter Monday. To go on the day after the Resurrection of Our Lord means that he is now sharing with Christ his eternal life and his presence in the World!
Pope Francis has been the Pope of Joy and Mercy. He encouraged all the catholics to spread the joy of the Gospel to every corner of the World. The Holy Father gave an example of austerity and repeated constantly that we can not be indifferent to those in need.
He was an apostle of the Sacrament of Confession, showed a deep devotion to St Joseph. His love for Our Lady was so big that, instead of being buried at St Peter Basilica, he asked to repose at the feet of Our Lady, Salus Populi Romani, in Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica.
Let's celebrate Pope Francis' life and legacy and keep praying for the repose of his soul.
We will have a new Pope at the end of this week 2. Our heart is going to be these days in Rome, supporting the Cardinals in the Conclave with our prayers!
Holy Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for the Cardinals, pray for the new Pope!
Fr Felix, Chaplain

Welcome back to Term 2 and the second half of Semester 1, 2025. A term which is already filled with significant academic, sporting and extracurricular activities, as well as numerous celebrations of our faith.
Firstly, a huge thank you to families for their excellent adherence to the college uniform policy. It was great to see so many boys wearing their full winter uniform with ties neatly tied and blazers being worn proudly. The expectation is that boys wear their blazers to and from each school day (excluding sports days). For the colder winter days ahead, the blue college pullover can be worn under the blazer to keep the boys warm.
Parent Teacher Interviews
It was wonderful to see so many parents attend our Parent Teacher Interviews on Day 1 of Term 2. I hope that you were able to learn some valuable insights about your son’s effort, academic performance and relationships with his peers.
An important second step of this process is to have a conversation with your son about what you and his class teacher discussed. Within this conversation, ensure that you celebrate his successes but also set some goals for the year ahead. There are huge benefits when parents, teachers, mentors and students are unified in this goal-setting process. Let’s hope for continuous improvement for all of our boys!
Year 6 Fun Day Fundraiser
Congratulations to all of the Year 6 helpers who assisted with the Fun Day Fundraiser on the final day of Term 1. The boys assisted with setting up events throughout the day and were enthusiastic when distributing the drinks, ice blocks and lollipops purchased by other primary boys.
They communicated confidently and worked together to ensure all pre-orders were filled - the distribution process was seamless, a testament to their diligence and care.
The day raised close to $400 with a suitable cause to be determined in the coming weeks by Year 6.
Please keep track of the college calendar and look for emails from the College, as our Term 2 planner is truly jam-packed! Looking forward to an exciting Term 2.
Luke Baxter, Head of Primary
Captain's Corner

Welcome back from the holidays boys, I hope you all had a great break and have started to get back into the grind of School life. As we have entered the month of May I would encourage you to trust in Mary our mother as she is always willing to intercede on our behalf when we ask God for help. There is a saying that go’s “to Jesus through Mary”. I find this rather helpful when calling upon Our Mother for assistance when I am in need. Staying on the topic of Mothers, this Sunday is Mothers Day. Our Mothers do so much for us and we don’t even realise, so in the lead up to Sunday try and be as helpful around the house as your mum would greatly appreciate it. In addition to this, ensure that you bring in your gifts before the Mothers day stall this Friday, so that you can have the chance of getting your mother a gift.
On a side note, the Wollemi inter-house basketball competition starts very soon so get pumped boys, we are hoping for the same energy that we got from the Futsal competition as we know there is a lot of talent waiting to be exhibited in this competition.
Have a great week and God Bless boys.

Year 7 & 8 World of Maths Incursion
Year 7 and 8 participated in an incursion led by World of Maths. This is an organisation that delivers interactive mathematical activities for students aged 5 - 15. These exercises and challenges help stimulate the whole brain and encourage critical and creative thinking.
By introducing basic concepts, the instructor Ms Low had gotten the entire grade fully engaged. Giving her the opportunity to establish core components required for problem-solving in maths and everyday thinking. These included:
The 3 C’s
Critical Thinking
Creative Thinking
Collaborative Thinking
The 5 W’s
When
Where
Why
Who
What
She thoroughly explained these concepts in an effective and fun way.
After doing this, we were sorted into groups of 4 and asked to begin working at the stations. At these stations were interactive challenges that required us to work as a team and think outside the box to find the answer. Due to the dedication and thought of the World of Maths, these projects were especially designed for real life scenarios, that make our brains faster, smarter and stronger.
Both grades enjoyed this incursion extensively, and the feedback from each class was overwhelmingly positive about it.

2025 Term Dates
School Times
The school gates will open at 8:15 a.m., and students are not allowed onto the school premises before this time unless they have co-curricular commitments. If you are dropping your child/children off before 8:15 a.m., please remind them that they are to stay outside the gates until they are opened.
A reminder that when collecting your child/ren, parents can either:
Park their car in the outside car park and walk into the school/pedestrian gate to pick up their child
Use the car line process where your child will come to the car.
To help with the flow of the carline and traffic in the area, we kindly ask that:
If you are using the car line, we ask parents not to exit the car.
Please collect your child/children between 3.25 pm and 3.45 pm when Teacher supervision ends.
This is a reminder to parents NOT to park along Gipps Rd in the afternoon, as it causes congestion and risks the safety of our students.
Car Line Pick-up
The safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance at Wollemi. As you would appreciate, with the commencement of a new school term, and the continued growth of the school population, the volume of traffic in and around the College has increased during afternoon pick-up. As a result of this, we have taken some measures to improve the parking at the College with the expansion of the overflow car park. To help ensure the effective traffic flow and our Wollemi community's safety, I take this opportunity to remind you of the College’s pick-up procedures.
Main Carpark (inside the College)
1. Entry into the school is via the second gate only.
2. Students are only to be collected in the green pick-up area (see diagram above)
3. The curb by the buildings is set down and pick up only (noted in green) – no parking. Do not alight from the right-hand side of cars in the set-down lane. Please be especially vigilant that children ONLY alight on the left.
4. Please do not double park in the set-down lane; instead, wait for space to become available on the curb.
5. Please remain in your vehicle until your son arrives.
6. When waiting in the carline to collect your son/son, please move to the front of the line or fill any empty space available along the pickup area to ensure traffic flow and maximise space.
Please watch for young students crossing on the pedestrian crossing from the school veranda entrance to the carpark.
Overflow car park (outside the school)
7. Students are only to be collected in the green pickup area (see diagram above)
8. Please Park only in the designated parking bays - as noted in yellow on the diagram
IMPORTANT NOTES
Please ensure your son knows which carpark he will be picked up from in the afternoon.
To further assist with traffic flow and reduce parent wait time in the car line, please remind your sons that they must be watchful for the approach of your vehicle on Gipps Rd so that they can be ready for collection.
We hope these measures will help improve traffic flow within the College, reduce congestion, and ensure student safety. We appreciate that the afternoon pickup period can be busy, and we ask that we continue to be patient and courteous to each other.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Year 5 Mother & Son Dinner
In the spirit of the upcoming Mother’s Day, we hosted a Mother and Son Dinner and what a night it was. Around 30 mums joined us with their sons for an evening filled with laughter, love, and special moments.
The boys made Mother’s Day cards, each had a sweet little heart-shaped chocolate a small gesture that meant so much. We shared cake, smiles, and even a few happy tears as we read the beautiful words our sons wrote.
To add an extra touch of joy, we held a small giveaway for one lucky mum.
Maybe I’m a little biased, but this group of women is truly something special. Kind, warm, and so easy to connect with. We couldn’t have asked for better company. The night was an absolute success ❤️

Year 8 Community Service Day
I just wanted to share a wonderful initiative that took place on the first Saturday of the holidays.
Sharol and I organised a community service day for the Year 8 boys, inspired by the Lenten season and the spirit of giving back and to further unify the Yr8 classes. The boys were absolutely amazing! They started by making delicious no-bake chocolate Rice Bubble bars for dessert, followed by preparing a variety of sandwiches.
Once the food was ready, they rolled up their sleeves to wash, dry, pack away, vacuum, and even clean the staff room! After all the hard work, they had some well-earned fun and then shared a meal of KFC, rice, chips, and salad.
As I mentioned to the boys, the sandwiches and dessert bars were handed out to the homeless in Penrith, Mount Druitt, Blacktown, and Parramatta.
Any additional money raised were used to purchase grocery items to include in the handouts. It was a meaningful way to kick off the holidays and enter Holy Week. A huge thank you to Mr Ison for coming along to support and encourage the boys on the day!
