Yesterday, Wollemi College had the immense honour of hosting Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz – the Prelate of Opus Dei.
Don Fernando is the third successor to St Josemaria Escriva, the Founder of Opus Dei, who has been the inspiration for Wollemi College and the other Pared schools in Sydney, so the Wollemi community was ecstatic to welcome him to our school!
This marked the Prelate's first visit to Australia in 15 years. His presence was deeply cherished as he engaged warmly with our staff, students, parents, and our treasured past parents who were integral in establishing our beloved school. With endless generosity, he took time to converse with all who approached him, offering blessings, receiving heartfelt letters, and even sharing warm embraces.
He met with the Student Representative Council in the Library before the entire school community gathered as he presided over a solemn blessing of the new Marian Shrine. His poignant words on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary resonated deeply, emphasising the strength of her intercession in answering our prayers.
Thank you, Don Fernando, for your presence, wisdom and insights. He echoed the timeless message of St. Josemaria – the sanctification of our lives and the world begins with the fulfilment of our daily responsibilities.
